Successful Chemistry Day at the Impression 5 Science Center

On October 28th, YCC participated in Chemistry Day at Impression 5 Science center in  Lansing. October 22-28th was National Chemistry Week where we celebrate how much Chemistry Rocks! During our time at Impression 5 we showed over 150 young scientists  how sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks are formed using starbursts! Sweet treats at Science Nights!

Over the past couple weeks, YCC members as well as other wonderful volunteers visited local elementary schools to show the magic of combining science and dessert! Each school hosted a variety of booths and activities for the students to observe and get involved with science. YCC brings plenty of cream, sugar and liquid nitrogen to make ice cream for all the kids to try. This year we tried something new and also made vegan ice cream with coconut milk so that everyone could try and it was a hit! They could add toppings and watch the nitrogen be poured into the mixture and solidify. Check out the photos below from our final Science Night.

Thanks to Marble Elementary, Whitehills Elementary, and Glencairn Elementary for hosting us and thanks to everyone that helped make these events a success!
